Project “Continue!“ is funded from 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds Investments in Lithuania. Project goal – to improve student achievements by providing support for effective changes in general education institutions. The support focus in two directions: a) implementing innovations in teacher professional development and b) implementing innovations in pre-service teacher training.
Project target groups: beginning teachers; teachers, who want to re-qualify or get additional qualification; individuals from other than education sectors holding higher education degree, who want to become teachers.
For identified challenges and problems, the following measures are applied:
To address the problem of lack of young teachers and insufficient quality and scope of teaching practice, the induction for beginner teachers will be piloted. The induction model and supporting instruments will be developed. Project partners – universities and colleges – will implement induction for beginner teachers. Expected result is systemic: once the project is finished, induction model will be approved and it will become compulsory for all beginner teachers. Project partners will strengthen their capacities and will be ready to ensure the continuity of induction activities.
To address the problem of lack of teachers and insufficient number of individuals involved in adult education programmes, conditions to get teacher qualification for individuals from other than education sectors holding higher education degree will be created. Project partners will provide training. Expected result is empowering system: broadened possibilities to acquire teacher qualification, improved image of teacher profession.
To address low student achievements, conditions to re-qualify or get additional qualification for in-service teachers will be created. It will be achieved by supporting pedagogical studies and continuous professional development programmes. Project partners and Education Development Centre will implement these activities. Expected result is of investment type: increased number of teachers capable to adapt to changing education curricula and favourable conditions for teachers to increase their workload.
During the project more activities, which support implementation of innovations, are planned:
Teacher training research: on the impact of structural changes for teacher training; the monitoring of structural changes’ implementation in the field of teacher training; the efficiency of educational support for schools and teachers. Results of these studies will contribute to teacher training system reorganization – will establish a basis for pre-service teacher studies structure and content; quality assurance and improvement of professional development conditions teachers.
New instruments for teacher competence assessment, approval and application in professional life. These instruments are necessary to successfully implement teacher assessment system, encourage professional development and support new teachers’ remuneration model.

Qualitative: nationally approved induction model for beginner teachers; more individuals attracted to become teachers and improved image of teacher profession; improved teacher capacities to adapt to changing education curricula; more effective assessment of teacher work quality.
Quantitative: 2221 participants – 1400 in informal studies and 821 in formal studies.
